The KUBO Coding Math set has a new unique set of TagTile® pieces that combine coding with math, which gives teachers a great way to cover multiple learning objectives and enables students to learn various skills simultaneously. This add-on pack contains 50 new TagTiles including numbers, operators and playful Game TagTiles. On top, this add-on offers free Task Cards and challenge maps, addressing counting, cardinality, operations, algebraic thinking, numbers, and operations, available to download for free from portal.kubo.education. On the KUBO Portal, there are also video tutorials and a quick start guide on using the KUBO Coding Math Set. The quick start guide is available in 12+ languages.
How do you use the maps and activity cards with the KUBO Coding Math Set? #
On the maps, you can find three different routes that KUBO can follow. Attach the Game Activator TagTile with the number corresponding to the route you want KUBO to follow. The position for the Game Activator TagTile is highlighted on the map. Before the students put KUBO on the Game Activator TagTile, they must choose 1-5 of their favorite Game TagTiles and place them along the route on the map. When KUBO passes a Game TagTile, it will stop and wait for the students to go through an activity card.
Each activity card represents a simple equation with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or less/greater than. The quantities the students must calculate are represented on the map. E.g., if the students work with the farm map, they might draw an activity card that asks them to add the number of cows with the number of horses. You can also come up with your own equations for the students to solve.
Via the KUBO Portal, you can choose which activity cards you find suiting for your students.
The students must use the KUBO Coding Math Set to find numbers and operators to build their equations with TagTiles. When KUBO reads the equation, it can tell whether it is correct or false. If the equation is correct, KUBO lights green. If it is false, KUBO lights red. When the students get the equation right, they can place KUBO back on the Game TagTile, and it will continue along the assigned route.
You are also able to combine coding with the KUBO Coding Math set by either building your own route on the map with incorporated Game TagTiles or use the numbers in front of Movement TagTiles to define how many times KUBO should execute the TagTile.
