What is the difference between the KUBO Coding Starter Set (1030) and the KUBO Coding Single Set (1010, Body pack 9001, Body 4-pack 9002)? #

The 1030 KUBO Coding Starter Set is the newest version of KUBO. It was released at the end of 2019, and it includes a number of new features:

  • The set comes in one box instead of three different packages. The set includes: the map, the robot, the TagTile® pieces, and the USB cable. On the back of the box in the downright corner, it will say “1030” if it is the new set
  • The activity map is now made of a resilient card that consists of four puzzle-shaped pieces, which you piece together when you want to use it. The new map can be stacked in the top of the box, which keeps the TagTiles in place
  • The KUBO Coding Starter Set (1030) is fully compatible with both the KUBO Coding+ TagTile Set (10102), the KUBO Coding++ TagTile Set (10103), and the KUBO Coding Math TagTile Set (10104). If you have an older version of KUBO, you need to update it through the My KUBO app before you can use it with the TagTiles from the add-on sets

You can find out if you have the newest set, by looking at the robot. You can find a sticker behind the KUBO wheel which indicates if the robot is the oldest version or not. You can also see it on the map. The old map is a roll-up map that you have separate from the box.

The KUBO robot in the 1030 KUBO Coding Starter Set has the following hardware improvements:

  • Improved gyroscope that automatically corrects directional movements
  • Improved accelerometer for more precise distance control
  • Improved audio feedback with a new speaker and HiFi audio files

The KUBO robot in the 1030 KUBO Coding Starter Set includes battery level indication through light feedback:

  • A green light means KUBO is 100% charged
  • A yellow light means KUBO is max. 60% and min. 20% charged
  • A red light means KUBO is less than 20% charged. When the red light starts to blink, the battery is almost dead, and KUBO must be recharged

What if the KUBO Coding++ and KUBO Math TagTiles do not work? #

If you have an older KUBO Coding Single Set or 4-pack solution, you will not be able to use the KUBO Coding++ Set or KUBO Coding Math Set before you have updated your robot(s). You can also watch our video tutorial about the My KUBO app.

Is an old KUBO head (10101) compatible with a new KUBO body (1030)? #

Yes. The original KUBO head is compatible with the new body. The same way around, a new head is compatible with an original body. However, if you have not updated the software through the My KUBO App, you will not be able to use the KUBO Coding++ and KUBO Coding Math TagTiles with the original head.
